Overview

The Accounting Manager supports the Senior Director in the financial reporting of company results, cost control, and the safeguarding of company assets. The Accounting Manager will oversee a team of three inclusive of a Senior Staff Accountant, Staff Accountant and Accounting Intern.

 

Primary responsibilities include consolidation of multi-company reporting and the provision of timely, comprehensive management reporting to regional and head office senior management. Review and analysis of results will be a critical component of the day to day responsibilities, as well as the provision of recommendations for improvement. The Accounting Manager will be highly involved in the establishment and adherence to company-wide financial policies and operational “best practices". He/she will lead or assist with various technical accounting and research projects.

 

Strong analytical and organizational skills are imperative, and he/she must be able to handle several projects simultaneously while providing leadership to the accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the month end close process for three companies with international operations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Oversee proper reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Ensure integrity of the financial statements for both internal and external reporting
  • Confirm proper treatment and compliance with statutory reporting requirements
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget to pinpoint opportunities for improvement; analyze and report on trends; prepare variance explanations
  • Oversee daily operations of a team of 3 staff accountants
  • Involved in short and longer term cash management and in the preparation of detailed cash flow projections
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bank reconciliation activities
  • Develop and maintain procedures for capital expenditure and project management
  • Interpret operating results of the company and makes recommendations to senior management on profit improvement opportunities.
  • Assures compliance with state, county and local tax authorities, as required by local legislation, including tax collecting, reporting and licensing.
  • Establishes procedures and systems necessary to provide adequate financial controls assuring compliance with policies relating to finance, accounting, information technology functions, as well as compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with various special projects, business process reviews and the streamlining of accounting activities

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Accounting
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience managing a team of staff accountants.
  • Superior excel/report writing skills.
  • Ability to attract, hire, develop, train, mentor and retain talented employees
  • Ability to hold employee accountable to timely completion and quality work results.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, clients, internal and external customers in a clear, professional and courteous manner which fosters a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to make sound business/operations decisions quickly and under pressure.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Solid working knowledge of computer applications: Microsoft office, Sage Accounting Software, BizNet.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to consistently adhere to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.

Intellectual/Social demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame. This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

Physical demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.

Work environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-even times.
