Overview

The Design Studio is passionate about being the User's Advocate. Our User Experience team in Irvine, CA is growing, and we want to find someone, who will help us better connect the product teams to our customers' needs and goals. We take research findings and translate those into intuitive, efficient designs by using an iterative design process. You excel at solving complex problems with the big picture in mind, while being able to address all detailed facets of your solutions.  When you join us, you will have the opportunity to practice a wide variety of user-centered design methodologies.  We are a small group of multidisciplinary User Experience Designers, we support the product from beginning to end. We work hard, brainstorm, share ideas and use lots of sticky notes.  

Our entire ecosystem of products range from B2B enterprise to e-commerce with the customer at its center. We partner with various teams across the organization, presenting research and prototype findings. You should feel comfortable leading meetings and explaining the “why” behind the insights. We partner with Product Management to explore ideas and help set product vision, often creating prototype experiments to clarify requirements.  We have a unique position in the company where we are connected to all departments and advise on product strategy as a whole.

Our goal is to successfully deliver user friendly, efficient and creative designs from concept to delivery in a fast-paced, collaborative and fun environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct user-centered design research including contextual interviews, persona creation, user journey mapping and card sorting, among others; then translate learnings and insights to make them actionable
  • Bring your design ideas to life, creating sketches, flows, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes and other design artifacts to define and communicate end-to-end user experiences that satisfies requirements and responsive design principles.
  • Participate in product ideation and conceptual development.
  • Push creativity and challenge conventional thinking to solve a large assortment of design problems.
  • Ability to present your ideas, rational, designs and user experience best practices in order to successfully convince, motivate and inspire stakeholders at all levels of our organization, including executives.
  • Work closely with an implementation team to ensure that the end to end design meets the highest level of quality, paying close attention to details.
  • Create, maintain and enforce design standards based on best practices and concrete learnings.
  • Encourage a user-centered design mindset to product, engineering and business colleagues.

Qualifications

Ability to demonstrate your breadth of work via a portfolio to be highly considered for this position.

  • Ability and desire to work in all phases of the design process (thinking and making) in an iterative, practical, and forward-thinking way
  • Ability to be a UX Generalist, but having depth in at least one practice area (interaction design, visual design, or design research) which demonstrates your unique skill set
  • Hands on experience with multiple real world projects which demonstrate examples of owning the end to end process.
  • Experience with Responsive Design
  • Experience with common creative software and prototyping tools.
  • Demonstrate experience with shipping products and the kind of design decisions that have to be made at various points along the way.
  • Ability to work well on an ego-free, highly collaborative and cross-functional team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum education of a Bachelor's Degree, a degree in a design related discipline is preferred

What else would get our attention?

 

Any additional skills which could complement our current staff including:

  • Solid understanding of layout, color, typography, design principles and processes.
  • Experience delivering high fidelity visual design comps and supporting design specifications and documentation for an implementation team to consume.
  • Knowledge of motion graphics, animation or video.
  • Some knowledge of front end coding, HTML, CSS and JavaScript so it can help you make design decisions, we are not looking for a full time coder
  • Skilled with copywriting
  • Experience creating and supporting a Design System and/or a design framework
  • Experience with Data Analytics to support research activities
  • Examples that you have sought out opportunities for self-development and continuing education
