Overview

The Media Services Manager supervises and performs responsible technical and administrative work within the Media Services Department. Sells and operates audio visual and telephone/data systems equipment. Coordinates the work of Media Services Technicians, skilled labor and serves as the liaison between venue users and venue technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Media Services Department.
  • Meet specified sales goals and objectives for the Media Services Department.
  • Set appointments and make outside calls to potential clients.
  • Negotiate effectively with potential clients on services offered by Media Services department.
  • Work with staff and clients in the pre-event planning stages of an event and prepare pricing proposals.
  • Determine audio visual and telephone/data system requirements for scheduled events.
  • Responsible for accurate billing of equipment and labor provided by the Media Services Department.
  • Supervise, train, monitor and schedule the work of the technicians and other media services staff.
  • Set up and operate media services equipment and data systems within the venue per client agreement.
  • Review all rental rates and recommends pricing adjustments accordingly.                              
  • Recommend new services and equipment to be state of the art and to maximize revenue. Including audio visual and telephone/data equipment.
  • Plan, implement and perform preventative and routine maintenance on audio visual equipment and telephone/data system equipment.                    
  • Keep accurate inventory of media services equipment.                                    
  • Assist the Director of Event Services with the budgeting process as it pertains to the Media Services Department through accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Plan and implement training programs within the Media Services Department.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Exemplify the SCCC and Spectra customer service principles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Technical Theatre, Mass Media or related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED and three (3) years combined audio visual and supervisory experience may be substituted.
  • Two to four years of experience in audio visual and telephone/data system coordination and operation, preferably in a convention center, theater, arena or hotel environment.
  • Two to four years of sales experience preferably in a convention center or major hotel.
  • Two to four years of experience in managing a team.
  • CTS certification
  • A+ Certification desired but not required.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule (including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required), depending upon event and business requirements.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Missouri driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of equipment in public venue settings.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and computerized audio visual systems.
  • Knowledge of sales procedures, methods and techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the supervision and motivation of others.
  • Familiarity with terminology used in entertainment/convention/public venue settings.

Intellectual/Social demands:

 

While performing duties of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time constraints in moderate to high pressure situations. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employee in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame.  This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

 

Physical demands:


While performing duties of the job, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment and/or tools.  Employee will frequently move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events to interact with internal/external clients and supervise the work of employees; position will require employee to occasionally bend, stoop, or crouch in order to evaluate and inspect equipment and building infrastructure; employee will as needed operate high lift in assessment of and maintenance of the building and equipment. Employee will occasionally be required to identify or match colors/tones of wires, chords or other equipment, as well as identify pitch, tone and volume of audio recordings. Employee will constantly operate a computer and other office devices such as calculators, telephones, copy machines and printers; employee will constantly communicate via telephone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. Employee will occasionally as maintenance, operations, emergency situations or business demands lift up to 50 pounds. Employee may often work 40 hours or more per week.

 

Work environment:


The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation.
