The Engineering Electrician is responsible for all electric items at the Convention Center. The Engineering Electrician is also responsible for day-to-day repairs and re-lamping as needed; for planning and delivery of exhibitor service needs; for preventive maintenance to electric distribution equipment and monitoring the performance of the public utility.


  • Provide quick response and perform tasks in a timely manner with a high regard to quality that will consistently meet and or exceed Palm Beach County Convention Center standards.
  • Maintain electrical systems throughout the building.
  • Work on equipment or distribution of 24 to 480-volts safely.
  • Review upcoming events floor plans to verify electric needs and code compliance.
  • Provide temporary power service for events throughout the building.
  • Oversee staff installation of exhibitor electrical services for large events.
  • Transport and install temporary electrical distribution equipment such as pin and sleeve, cam lock and twist lock connectors.
  • Repair existing or install new electrical service within the building.
  • Operate Lutron lighting control systems and perform maintenance on it.
  • Perform research on labor needed and gather costs for projects.
  • Request quotations and order tools and materials from outside vendors.
  • Update various facility personnel through clear and concise communication, both orally and in writing, on work status.
  • Accurately maintain records of labor time, parts used and work accomplished while demonstrating an attention to detail.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required in a team environment that encourages exceptional service to our clients and the facility


  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years experience in electrical construction or electrical building maintenance is required.
  • A state or county license or credible electrical certification is required.
  • Completion of 12th grade supplemented by college or trade school for building maintenance of electrical or related building systems.
  • Computer literate with skills to understand a Windows based system.
  • Must have a valid, clean driver’s license.
  • Must be familiar with temporary electrical distribution equipment such as pin and sleeve, cam lock and twist lock connectors.
  • Knowledge of NFPA and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to install conduit and use a pipe bender.
  • Must be able to work on voltages from 24 to 480 volts safely.
  • A working knowledge of Lutron lighting control systems is a plus.
  • Must be able to research and estimate the cost of a project.
  • Must be able to read building blueprints and to trace out circuits.
  • Relevant experience in a first-class Convention Center environment preferred.
  • Must be a self starter with little or no supervision and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions that are furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form; to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and adapt in the work environment and to work beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Physical Demands 

  • Ability to reach, grasp, walk, climb, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to work at heights of up to 40-feet and lift up to 40-lbs.unaided.
  • Must be able to speak, write and understand English.
