  • Overview

    Utilizing initiative and independent judgment, the Assistant General Manager assists the General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the facilities including event booking, box office, sales, marketing, public relations, finance, human resources, event services, operations, housekeeping, maintenance, safety and security.


    Drive quality, diversity and volume of live entertainment and event activity across all Owensboro Spectra-managed venues by actively working with agents, promoters, producers and content developers.


    • Assist the General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the complex including event booking, box office, sales, marketing, public relations, finance, human resources, event services, operations, housekeeping, maintenance, safety and security.
    • Assist the General Manager in the development and administration of the facility’s operating and capital budgets; work directly with the department directors in developing operating budgets and revenue projections.
    • Recruit, select, lead, motivate and evaluate director level staff; provide and coordinate training as needed; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
    • Develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures for the complex.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users.
    • Establish and manage key national and regional entertainment and content relationships on behalf of Owensboro facilities including artist agents, artist management, concert and sporting event promoters, family show and specialty touring show producers.
    • Responsible for talent buying, concert/event promoter negotiations to maximize bookings and revenue production.
    • Assist with new event creation such as radio station shows, themed festivals, community events and other revenue producing concepts.
    • Identify non-ticketed revenue producing booking opportunities (commercial shoots, product launches etc).
    • Represent Owensboro in identifying strategic relationships across music, theater and other content producers and promoters.


    • Significant working knowledge and relationships in the music, touring and theater industries.
    • A minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility in professional venue management, operations management and of talent buying and booking experience for arenas, stadiums and theaters/small halls including various music genres.
    • Minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience at the Director level.
    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public venue management, hospitality management, business administration or a related field (Other combinations of experience and education that meet these requirements may be submitted)
    • CMP, CFE/CVE, Oglebay graduate or other industry recognized designations are preferred.
    • Working knowledge of event booking, box office, sales, marketing, event services, safety and security, facility maintenance and housekeeping, finance and human resources, audiovisual, telecommunications, and food and beverage operations
    • Direct experience in at-risk promoting of concerts/shows including ticket scaling, marketing, production planning, staging, insurance and local support logistics.
    • Strong understanding of the venue management and the venue business model and track record of innovative ideas that drive revenue and profitability.
    • Experience consulting with and coaching internal clients on booking related matters.
    • Ability to travel moderately.
    • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended number of days

    • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. This position requires constant use of interpersonal skills including but not limited to: ability to foster collaboration, recognize and resolve conflicts, and openly communicate in writing and verbally.

    Physical demands:

    • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.

    Work environment:

    • The duties of this position are usually performed indoors. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.
