  • Overview

     

    To manage, supervise and coordinate the activities and operations of the Sales and Marketing Division for the Pueblo Convention Center; to schedule and book facility events; and to provide highly responsible staff assistance to higher-level management staff.

     

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Assume management responsibility for all services and activities of the Sales and Marketing Division including the scheduling and booking of all facility events and the signage/sponsorship opportunities within the Pueblo Convention Center including vendor packages, sales materials, proposals, sales calls and contracts.
    • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of all Sales and marketing programs and activities.
    • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the General Manager; implement improvements.
    • Select, train, motivate and evaluate all sales and marketing personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
    • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for providing marketing, booking and sales services; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
    • Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; direct and implement adjustments as necessary.
    • Maintain weekly revenue reporting for current and future years; identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, and potential shortfalls.
    • Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangement; finalize all booking arrangement; prepare contracts; negotiate rental and other rates as required.
    • Conduct tours of facility for potential licensees; answer questions and provide information regarding facility capabilities.
    • Direct and plan promotional projects and coordinate focused marketing programs; develop strategies for new markets and clients.
    • Oversee the development of all facility advertising and marketing materials; analyze facility rental rates, schedules, and labor rates and modify as necessary.
    • Maintain a large account base, regular contact and follow up with clients as well as prospecting, cold calling, and performing sales blitz.
    • Participate on a variety of committees; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of sales and marketing.
    • Oversee the scheduling and booking of all facility events; serve as a liaison with outside promoters, permittees, and presenters as well as other departments and divisions; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues.
    • Provide responsible staff assistance to the General Manager as necessary; prepare and present staff reports and other related correspondence.
    • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints both internally and externally.
    • Maintain a large account base, regular contact and follow up with clients as well as prospecting, cold calling, and performing sales blitz.
    • Meet facility goals as well as departmental revenue goals.
    • Work with internal departments on the planning of future events.
    • Oversee the development of all venue advertising and marketing plans and materials; analyze venue rental rates, schedules, and labor rates and modify as necessary.
    • Oversee ongoing website maintenance, updates and content, as well as social media postings, and online advertising.
    • Manage and maintain departmental budget, purchase orders, and invoices.
    • Participate on corporate sales and marketing calls.
    • Plan and organize venue events efficiently.
    • Actively participate in community functions, events, and meetings.
    • Oversee the scheduling and booking of all venue events; serve as a liaison with outside event organizers as well as other departments; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues.
    • Interpret and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Work in conjunction with the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce (CVB) as well as hotel partners.
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
    • Assist General Manager as needed

     

    Qualifications

     

     

    SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS AND KNOWLEDGE:

     

    • Operational characteristics, services and activities of venue sales and marketing program.
    • Understand the organization and operation of the convention center and of the outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities
    • Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
    • Modern and complex principles and practices of event scheduling and booking operations.
    • Principles and practices of accounting
    • Principles and practices of budget preparation and control.
    • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
    • Principles of crowd management.
    • Client needs as they apply to venue usage.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • Knowledge of Adobe software packages, Photoshop, Indesign, Spark, is a plus.
    • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
    • Research, analyze and evaluate new service delivery methods, procedures, laws and regulations.
    • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
    • Perform responsible and difficult secretarial work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
    • Understand the organization and operation of the convention center and of the outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
    • Interpret and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.

     

    Experience and Training

     

    Experience:

    Four years of increasingly responsible sales and marketing experience for a major stadium, convention center, or performing arts facility including some supervisory responsibility.

     

    Training:

    A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course works in Marketing, business administration, or a related field
