  • Overview

    The Director of Sales & Marketing will directly manage, supervise, and coordinate all the activities of the Marketing and Sales Department to reach budget goals and generate revenue for the facility. This individual will create, develop, and implement event marketing plans, manage event advertising budgets and promotions to ensure successful sales for events. He/she will develop creative marketing campaigns that promote public/community awareness. He/she will be responsible for maintaining relationships with media partners and ensuring fulfillment of contracts while overseeing the media buying and billing process. He/she will be responsible for oversight of Sales/Events team in procuring events for the building’s convention spaces, insuring these events are delivered to clients with the highest quality experience possible while meeting/exceeding projected revenue targets for the building budget.



    • Develop or directs the development and preparation of comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e. Annual Sales & Marketing Plan, Annual Facility Report, etc…)
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users.
    • Develop or direct Convention Center facility leads and bookings for assigned market segments through proactive sales calls, presentations, prospecting, and site tours that lead to securing business.
    • Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed
    • Ensure the development, implementation and reconciliation of comprehensive marketing programs for events
    • Plan, organize, lead and control public relations and group sales efforts for the facility
    • Negotiate and oversee implementation of advertising, convention space rental, and media-related sponsorship agreements
    • Develop, edit and issue press releases
    • Explore non-traditional marketing opportunities for the facility and its events
    • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
    • Develop, monitor and evaluate annual marketing budget; set and manage achievement of department objectives


    • Minimum 5 years experience of increasing responsibility in professional public assembly facility marketing management
    • Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree or better from an accredited college or university in public assembly facility management, hospitality management, business administration or a related field (Other combinations of experience and education that meet these requirements may be substituted)
    • Experience employing modern management methods, long range planning, principles of budgeting, and leadership skills
    • Knowledge of budget preparation and control
    • Familiarity with advertising/sponsorship program development
    • Familiarity of Public Relations, Media buying, Web site maintenance and Promotions
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, graphic design, PowerPoint and Internet software
    • Familiarity with publishing software such as Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
    • Working knowledge of Ungerboeck scheduling software.
