  • Overview


    Utilizing initiative and independent judgment, the Director of Events works closely with the General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the facility including sales, marketing, public relations, finance, human resources, event services, operations, housekeeping, maintenance, safety and security. The position will also direct and lead the Events Department, including management, supervision and coordination of the events and event staffing.

    Supervision is exercised over professional staff that directs various sections in day-to-day operations. Responsibility further includes evaluation and development of recommendations to improve organizational administration, procedures, policies, programs. The ability to assist the General Manager in proactively booking business into the facility is essential.




    • Assist the General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the facility including sales, marketing, public relations, finance, human resources, event services, operations, housekeeping, maintenance, safety and security
    •  Assist the General Manager in the development and administration of the facility’s operating and capital budgets; work directly with the department directors in developing departmental operating budgets and revenue projections;
    •  Direct and implement all event coordination.
    •  Recruit, select, lead, motivate and evaluate director level staff; provide or coordinate training as needed; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
    •  Work directly with clients in preparation of cost estimates, contract negotiation, oversight of event coordination, event settlement.
    •  Address and recommend actions on all personnel matters
    •  Work with the departmental directors in the day-to-day management of their various departmental disciplines; review and evaluate processes and results; identify and resolve deficiencies and challenges
    •  Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
    •  Develop and implements programs, policies, and procedures for the facility
    •  Develop or directs the development and preparation of comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e. Event Handbook, Annual Sales & Marketing Plan, Annual Preventative Maintenance Plan, Annual Facility Report, Booking Policies etc…
    •  Participate and lead various interdepartmental project groups, special projects, and task forces
    •  Conduct a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate
    •  Represent the General Manager as needed at various meetings.
    •  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users
    •  Perform other duties as assigned.
    •  Select, train, motivate and evaluate supervisory staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
    •  Oversee the set-up of events; coordinate facility arrangements with concessionaires
    •  Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.





    • Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in event management in an arena, stadium, convention center or other multi-purpose public assembly facility
    •  Supervisory experience required
    •  Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university
    •  Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid CPR certificate
    •  Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid state driver’s license
    •  Knowledge of customer service practices
    •  Knowledge of crowd control
    •  Ability to prepare, track, control and analyze budgets
    •  Knowledge of event and facility marketing strongly preferred including but not limited to Photoshop, press releases, media buying, website design, social media, etc.
    •  Booking experience is preferred
    •  Experience employing modern management methods, long range planning, principles of budgeting, and leadership skills
    •  Excellent customer service skills
    •  Familiarity with EEOC, FLSA, OSHA, ADA and other employment regulations
    •  Excellent communication and inter-personal skills

    Intellectual/Social demands:

    While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame. This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.


    Physical demands:

    While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.


    Work environment:

    The duties of this position are performed outdoors and occasionally indoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.
