  • Overview

    The Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center seeks qualified flymen for their upcoming 2018/2019 season on a part time/per event basis. The Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center features works of all genres in 2 different theater spaces, as well as an outdoor stage.  The Flyman is responsible for the installation and safety of all the rigging during work calls, load-ins and load-outs for stage productions, including events and rentals.


    • Must emphasize safety above all else
    • Understand rail operating procedures
    • Significant knowledge and experience with single purchase counterweight rigging systems and hemp fly system
    • Must be able to communicate to both stage, loading bridge and, grid, any and all movement from operating system
    • Must be able to recognize load limitations of both the arbor system and the human beings operating the system; don’t be a hero, be realistic
    • Work independently and as part of team
    • Work events as needed
    • Perform general labor as assigned
    • Regular and punctual attendance

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, squat, and, bend, throughout the day. Sustained and controlled lifting, holding, and pushing throughout the event.  

    Work environment:

    • While performing duties of this job, the employee exclusively supervises the operating rail and communicates solely with the loading bridge. The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation. 


    • Ability to follow basic instruction and direction
    • Ability to perform general labor; heavy lifting may be required
    • Ability to function in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
    • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal harmoniously with guests, employees and outside contractors
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently; exercise initiative, resourcefulness, good judgment and accept responsibility for own actions
    • Capable of physical tasks for short periods of time


    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred
    • Ability to work flexible schedule based on event needs, including: nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
    • Dependable with reliable transportation
