    To manage, supervise and coordinate the set-up and operations of the building; oversee all building changeovers; and provide highly responsible staff assistance to the assigned facility director.


    The William D. Mullins Memorial Center is a multi-purpose 10,500 seat facility on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Home to UMass basketball and hockey, the facility hosts concerts, family, ice and theater shows. The Mullins Center sits on Commonwealth Avenue on the western edge of the UMass Amherst campus.     • Coordinate all services and activities involved in the operations of arena and function room sets
    • Select, train, motivate and evaluate front-line staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures
    • Assist in planning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work plans for facility operations
    • Order building supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies
    • Ability to follow written instruction, interpret CAD’s and blue prints
    • Interface with union officials and employees as required
    • Develop long range plans for future events
    • Assign appropriate changeover personnel to accurately and efficiently set-up and tear down events
    • Communicate between shifts the necessary tasks that still need to be completed
    • Working knowledge of operations equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, staging, retractable seating risers, basketball floors, hockey glass, etc.
    • Coordinate between changeover crew and housekeeping needs with custodial supervisors
    • Maintain departmental equipment
    • Assist the Community Ice Rink Manager and Champions Center Building Manager with projects and staffing assistance
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


    • Bachelor Degree preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in building maintenance including at least one year of building changeover work in an Arena, Convention Center or Public Assembly Facility including set-up/housekeeping, event coordination or related field.
    • Must have a demonstrated ability to function in a fast paced, high-pressure environment and possess superior interpersonal and communication skills
    • Zamboni experience a plus
    • Must have the ability to work long hours, nights, weekends and holidays
    • Must be self-motivated and have excellent organizational skills
