  • Overview

    The Venue and Catering Sales Manager is responsible for generating meeting, event and food and beverage revenue for the Charleston Gaillard Center through direct inquiry and solicitation. The ability to provide cross-functional support is necessary and involvement in a variety of projects will be required. This position reports to the Director of Catering.

     

    The Charleston Gaillard Center is an 1,800-seat performance hall located in Charleston, South Carolina. The facility also contains 16,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space, along with office and public spaces. The Charleston Gaillard Management Corporation (CGMC) is a non-profit 501c3 organization responsible for managing the facility.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the Director of Marketing and Director of Catering to prepare and implement sales action plans annually and quarterly.
    • Work with the Operations department to accurately assess the financial viability of rental requests.
    • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
    • Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program.
    • Plan and execute sales trips, calls and site visits. Travel locally to conduct outside sales calls to promote the venue.
    • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with customers , community organizations and professional associations to maintain visibility and market share.
    • Act as a positive main point of contact for hotel partners, the CACVB and other community partners, and coordinate with partner services to best serve group needs.
    • Respond to and manage all venue/catering sales inquiries for the Exhibition Hall or full facility rental, with the exception of community and resident artistic groups.
    • Conduct customer site visits, and prepare rental estimates and contracts, and draft all correspondence and related materials.
    • Serve as the client point of contact throughout the sales process, to include planning for catering and any audio visual or event rental needs.
    • Ensure that all venue rental inquiries and bookings are completely and accurately entered into Event Booking.
    • Provide the CEO with a monthly report of new bookings against budget.
    • Meet and/or exceed revenue goals while maintaining target margin.
    • Review all meeting planner evaluations to ensure any problems are rectified.
    • Attend sales and staff pre and post con meetings are needed.
    • Collaborate with the event management team to ensure a smooth transition for contracted events, and support additional sales needs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or Public Relations or a related field.
    • 3 – 5 years of related experience with a successful sales record.
    • Local travel may be required. Must have a current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to operate office equipment, and software including the MS Office Suite, Excel and Word.
    • Experience with Proposal Path is preferred.
    • Ability to maintain a professional demeanour and appearance.
    • Related certifications a plus.
    • Ability to move, transport and/or position up to 35lbs.
    • Activities may require sustained periods of movement, traversing, and positioning to meet facility and event demands.
    • Must submit to a criminal background check
    • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States
