    Event (Audio / Visual) A/V Operator is an on-call, per event employee who assists the Production Manager in all aspects of A/V needs for Iowa Events Center during and in preparation for events.  The employee must maintain excellent attendance. 


    This position is based at our Iowa Events Center. The Iowa Events Center features a variety of flexible spaces to host events of all types and sizes. The Iowa Events Center is a unique combination of three venues under one roof: Wells Fargo Arena, Hy-Vee Hall, and Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center. The complex is flexible to meet the needs of events of all types and sizes. It is well-suited for conventions, meetings, tradeshows, sporting, social and entertainment events from 10,000–17,100 people. You can learn more about our venue here:

    • Fulfill event requirements on A/V needs including, but not limited to, the areas of: audio, replay playback, lights, and technical direction as events require
    • Assist Production Manager with video and sound needs
    • Operate professional video cameras
    • Understand and utilize low-level A/V engineering and signal flow knowledge to accurately setup and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment with limited supervision
    • Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly and in sufficient detail to minimize troubleshooting steps
    • Lead video production segments as needed
    • Assist with video production of all games and events (as required) in house
    • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients


    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Some college-level courses in Production or a similar field helpful
    • Must have demonstrated operational experience in several aspects of video production / video production crew
    • Knowledge of Daktonics Show Control software helpful
    • Knowledge and/or experience working with Ross Blackstorm & Ross Xpression helpful
    • Experience with 3play helpful
    • Experience with Ross Carbonite Production Switcher helpful
    • Knowledge of Panasonic Studio cameras helpful
    • Experience with Allen and Heath mixing console helpful
    • Experience in editing preferred
    • Experience in levels of sound reinforcement preferred
    • Must be comfortable consistently multi-tasking and working in a fast paced, moderately loud environment
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of team
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to constantly listen and communicate clearly over a company radio / headset
    • Ability to work events above and beyond the normal working day, including nights and weekend.

    Intellectual/Social demands:

    • While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently asked to multi-task through different methods including hearing, visually (seeing) and physical action under pressure of time constraints in moderate to high pressure situations.  Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, ability to make quick (in-the moment) decisions, and concentration which constantly extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with team members, production director and management.


    Physical demands:

    • While performing duties of the job, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment and/or tools.  Employee will
    • frequently move about inside and occasionally outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events to interact with
    • internal/external guests; position will require employee to occasionally bend, stoop, or crouch in order to evaluate, connect
    • and inspect equipment and building infrastructure. Employee will occasionally be required to identify or match colors/tones
    • of wires, cords, or other equipment, as well as hear to identify pitch, tone and volume of audio recordings. Employee will
    • may operate a computer, and constantly use various audio visual equipment.  Employee will frequently remain in a
    • stationary standing position to obtain necessary footage and should be comfortable balancing / lifting a camera or other
    • equipment for extended periods of time.  Employee will constantly communicate via radio, email and in-person with others
    • and exchange detailed, accurate information quickly.  Employee may lift up to 50 pounds. Employee will occasionally be
    • asked to enter the competition surface, use the stairs, i.e., field turf, dirt, hardwood or ice rink while carrying or balancing
    • production equipment.


    Work environment:

    • The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors.  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment, and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation.  The environment in the Arena can be moderately cold (chilly) due to the ice rink.
